GMV is a Spanish technology business group founded in 1984. With nearly 4000 employees across over 80 countries, it specializes in the space, aeronautics, and defense sectors and is a leader in the field of satellite-based navigation.
As of 2026, GMV ranks as the sixth-largest industrial group in the European space sector. It is also the world’s leading provider of satellite control centers.
Over the years, GMV has participated in numerous projects sponsored by European institutions, including the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Commission (EC).
In terms of maritime and inland waterways navigation and GNSS, other European projects such as ASGARD and AVIS or RIPTIDE showcase GMV’s extensive expertise and provide solid know-how, technical capabilities, and practical experience that underpin its contribution to ISLET.
Since the start of the ISLET project in June 2025, GMV has been committed to the design and development of its two core solutions: the ISLET Receiver-P and the ISLET Receiver-S, supporting both maritime and inland waterways navigation and including Galileo HAS corrections.
Two different branches of GMV’s business group are involved in the project: GMV Aerospace and Defence (the Spanish, core matrix of the group), and GMV Innovating Solutions (the Romanian subsidiary, founded in 2009). The Romanian team provides a wide range of solutions, services, and products, including Satellite Navigation Systems, and is recognized as one of Romania’s leading space companies.
As project leader, GMV Spain plays a leading role by driving project management and coordination, gathering target applications and defining user requirements, leading the design and development activities, contributing to standardization efforts, and promoting the project’s exploitation and dissemination. GMV Romania’s main contribution to the project focuses on testing, verification and validation activities, while also supporting exploitation and dissemination efforts.
